After trying a few different brands, I want to share my (honest) Solly Baby wrap review in hopes of helping you to start babywearing, the right way!

Baby wraps can be intimidating! What do you do with all the fabric? Is the baby actually safe in there? How do you get the baby in? Well, once you get the hang of it, you will love wrapping your baby and being hands-free. Although there are so many brands to choose from, I have fallen in love with the Solly Baby Wrap.

Solly Baby Wrap Review – What I LOVE:

Today, I will chat about everything from all the reasons I love my Solly wrap to a quick babywearing tutorial! If you are wondering whether or not to put this on your baby registry, this should convince you that you won’t be able to live without it 😉

At Bless Our Littles, we like to talk about things we love and think you might enjoy too.  Some of the links on this page may be affiliate links (see disclosure here). This means we will receive a commission if you click on a link and make a purchase. This is no extra cost to you. There are some products we have tried and others that we haven’t but think would be helpful to you!

1. Lightweight Fabric

My baby girl was born in August, so it was HOT! The last thing I wanted was a really heavy and thick baby wrap, and the Solly is perfect! It’s lightweight, but heavy enough to hold the baby comfortably and safely! So, it’s great for any time of the year, but I would highly recommend this wrap for any mamas having babies in warmer times of the year like summer!

2. Soft

Some lightweight materials aren’t the softest, but this one is! It is super soft and I honestly feel like it only gets softer each time I use it!

3. Comfortable

Being that the material is lightweight and soft, this makes this wrap super comfy! I was nervous that as my daughter got older, the Solly Baby Wrap would become more uncomfortable just because of her getting bigger, but that really hasn’t been the case.

Because there are some different ways that baby can be worn, I simply adjusted how I was carrying her, and it is just as comfortable as when she was a tiny little newborn!

4. Neutral Colors

Some baby wraps have very bold patterns and designs. Of course, that can be really pretty, but I prefer going with the Solly because it has more of a neutral color palette. It goes with any outfit, and I just love that I can coordinate without having to put forth any effort!

5. Productivity

The Solly Baby Wrap helps me be more productive! There are going to be times when your baby will just want to be held. No matter what you do and how much you comfort your baby, he/she will just want to be held and supported. My absolute favorite thing about this wrap is that it allows me to cuddle my daughter and give her the comfort she needs while I can remain hands-free. I can get things done while she is getting her mommy time!

6. Explore

As I’m moving around the house or going for a walk, this wrap gives my daughter a different perspective to see things. Instead of being in a stroller or jumper, she is up with me, learning and exploring!

Solly Baby Wrap Review – Things to keep in mind:

1. Since it’s lightweight, if you plan to be outside during the cooler months, you will either need to bundle up the baby or get a jacket that will cover the two of you! So, lightweight is of course a great thing, but it’s also important to remember to keep you and your baby warm if you’re planning on heading outside in the colder months!

2. As the baby gets a little heavier you will need to ensure that you are wrapping correctly so you don’t put any unnecessary strain on your back or your shoulders. As they grow, having them on you becomes more difficult, but there are other techniques for the Solly Baby Wrap that you can use to prevent any soreness or straining from happening!

3. Similar to all other products that hold babies, there is a weight limit! You can wear your baby until he/she reaches 25 pounds! Once they reach that point, which will probably be after the one year old mark, you will need to start searching for baby wearing alternatives within their weight.

How to use the Solly Baby Wrap

Now that you can see why I love it so much, I want to take some time to explain how to use the Solly Baby Wrap! It can be very overwhelming when you first open the box. I was NOT anticipating it being that much fabric! But, you’ll get the hang of it!

Tip: I would highly recommend saving this to your baby Pinterest Board, so you don’t loose it.

STEP 1: Find the Tag

step one of using solly baby wrap

Solly has conveniently located their tag in the center of the wrap. Find the tag and use this as your starting point by putting the tag in the center of your stomach, bunching the fabric a little.

STEP 2: Criss-Cross the Back

step two of using solly baby wrap

Once you’ve placed the center around your stomach, wrap it behind your back and then criss-cross the fabric tightly.

STEP 3: Criss-Cross the Back

step three of using solly baby wrap

Next, bring the fabric on top of your shoulders.

Left side goes to right shoulder and right side goes over left shoulder.

Make sure that it is fanned out and flat. You don’t want it to bunch up where it is crossed because it will leave it feeling uncomfortable.

STEP 4: Criss-Cross the Front

step four of using solly baby wrap

After bringing the fabric to the front of your body, you will want to cross it again, making an “X” from your shoulders to your stomach.

STEP 5: Put “X” Through the Initial Fabric

step five of using solly baby wrap

Send the fabric through the initial band that you made from step 1.

STEP 5: Tighten + Criss-Cross the Back (again)

step six of using solly baby wrap

Make sure that it is tightened after you send the fabric through in step 3. After it is tight enough, always go a little tighter than you think you should, send the fabric across your back, criss-crossing one final time.

STEP 6: Bring back to Front + Tie

step six of using solly baby wrap

Bring the fabric back to the front. Tie it in a double-knot in the front, and you will be ready to add the baby!

STEP 7: Place Baby in – Leg #1

step seven of using solly baby wrap

With the baby leaning on your body, resting on your shoulder, put one of the baby’s legs into one side of the criss-cross you made in step 3. This is the piece of fabric touching and closest to your chest.

Then pull the fabric where it completely covers his/her booty.

STEP 8: Leg #2

step eight of using solly baby wrap

Then, place the baby’s other leg in the other side of the criss-cross, pulling that fabric completely over his/her booty as well.

(Tip) Fabric should be right near baby’s knees. You want baby to be in an “M” position with their booty down and knees up. I like to think of frog legs.

STEP 9: Secure Baby

step nine of using solly baby wrap

Now that the baby is in with the underlayer (which is the criss-cross), you will bring that original fabric that has the Solly tag in the center, completely over the baby’s back, ensuring that they are secure and snug.

Now that you’ve gotten the complete baby wearing wrap tutorial, I have some key tips that I’d like to share with you…

Tips for Using your Solly Baby Wrap

1. Make sure you can kiss your baby’s head

kiss baby's head tips for using solly baby wrap

While kissing our baby’s head is always a must because it is adorable and we love them so much, it is also a sign that they are securely snug in their wrap! If you have to lean all the way down to kiss your baby’s head, he/she may not be in the most comfortable or safe position. You want your baby to be located higher up where they are resting comfortably.

2. Frog Legs

I like to call it frog legs, where the baby’s legs are spread onto either side of my body. Having your baby with frog legs will help to distribute the weight, making it less straining on your neck, back, and shoulders.

3. Tag goes in the middle of your tummy

The Solly tag is essential. If you don’t set it up to where it is directly in the middle of your tummy, chances are, your wrap will not feel as comfortable or be as even as it could be!

4. Make sure It’s not twisted in the backs

As you are tying your wrap, continuously check and make sure that with your criss-crossing, you are keeping the fabric flat. If it gets all twisted, it just becomes really uncomfortable.

5. Cap over your Shoulders

Just like a cap sleeve dress, but bigger, also make sure that the fabric isn’t bunched over your shoulder. It should be really smooth and cover all of your shoulders all the way down to the middle of your biceps.

FAQ When Babywearing with a Solly Wrap

How do I know if my baby is secure?

This is a question that I was asking myself when I was debating on using a wrap, so I definitely wanted to include this question in my Solly Baby Wrap review! I quickly learned that the baby is secure with these wraps because there are three points of contact when done properly.

As shown above in the baby wearing wrap tutorial, the baby is wrapped in each underlayer criss-cross as well as the overlayer. This 3 layer coverage brings me a lot of comfort as I am walking and doing things with her around the house.

What is the Solly Wrap made of?

As I’ve mentioned quite a bit, the Solly Wrap is incredibly soft! It’s actually made of Lenzing Modal, which is a material made from Austrian Beechwood trees. Not only is this product incredibly soft it’s also known for being durable AND eco-friendly! So, you pretty much can’t go wrong!

How do you Care for Your Solly Baby Wrap

If you’re as sold as I am on the Solly Baby Wrap by now, you may be wondering how to care for it! Well, it’s pretty simple. Just make sure that you wash it in cold water. Typically, I will wash it by itself, then dry it on low heat. You want to be sure that you don’t put it with anything else so the other clothes don’t ruin the fabric!

In Conclusion…

I hope that you found this Solly Baby Wrap review and babywearing wrap tutorial helpful! There are so many options out there for different baby wearing products, but I’ve found that this option is the easiest one to use day in and day out! It’s comfortable for me and baby, and I hope that you will enjoy it just as much as I have!
