It seems like one of the main job descriptions of a mother is to worry about her child. We worry that they will fall and get hurt, or get in a fight with someone, or they will get sick. If a mother isn’t careful, then worry will take over every part of their lives and steal the joy that comes with being a mother.
There are some amazing Bible verses about worrying about your child that can help keep us stay rooted in the word of God. It’s so powerful to read what He says about worry and anxiety.
The verses in this post are only a very small sampling of how the Bible addresses worry, but they are some of my favorites to turn to when fear and worry threaten to overtake me.
13 of the Best Bible Verses for When you are Worrying About your Child
I could not think of any better Bible verses about worrying about your child than the 13 verses that are below. They feed my soul and root me firmly in Christ.
To trust the Lord completely with my child is something I strive to do every day, but I can only do it when I am saturated with his word.
When I forsake God’s word and make the foolish decision to try to do this motherhood thing on my own, I fail miserably. I am consumed with worry, doubt, and frustration when I am not anchored in the word of my creator.
I pray that these verses bless your heart and mind as much as they have mine. I pray that they will ease the worry your feel for your child and trust God to complete his purpose for you and them.
I know how worry can make you feel completely out of control, but take heart, the only one that controls anything is God.
“Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.
Jesus answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is needed. Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.
Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down,
but a kind word makes it glad.
Cast your burden on Yahweh and he will sustain you.
He will never allow the righteous to be moved.
It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.
Search me, God, and know my heart.
Try me, and know my thoughts.
1 Peter 5:7
Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.
Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.
You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.
Don’t let your heart be troubled. Believe in God. Believe also in me.
Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light
5 Ways to Pray For Your Children
Praying for our children, instead of worrying about our children, is a better way to care for them. In our moments of worry, it may not come naturally to set our concerns at the feet of our savior and pick up his peace, but this is what we are called to do as Christian mothers.
There are 5 ways to pray for our children instead of worrying for them that I want to share with you in this post. These are some of my favorite things that I pray for my child.
Often I pray each of these things daily along with a few other prayers depending on what is happening in our lives. What matters is that we pray earnestly for our children every day.
Pray that they make good choices.
Praying for our children to make wise choices when they are away from us, is such a good way to pray for them. We can’t control what they are doing when we aren’t there but we can trust that God loves them more than we do, and he gives wisdom freely when he is asked.
Pray for their hearts to love Jesus.
I pray this daily. There is no better way to pray for your child. If their hearts are turned to Christ, then everything else will follow. I pray many other things for my child but if their heart does not love Jesus, then it is all for naught. As a Christian mother, there would be no greater joy than to see my child walk with the Lord all of their days.
Pray that they will love people as Jesus does.
None of us want our children to be unkind and selfish. We want them to love like Jesus. To see others as more important than themselves, and to sacrifice what they want for the benefit of others.
This can only happen if they love people like Jesus does, but this doesn’t come naturally and is simply a fruit of having God’s spirit.
Pray that they will have an obedient spirit.
I am always more concerned that my child will obey God, than I am about them obeying me. Having an obedient spirit towards God will give them an obedient spirit to parents and other authorities as they understand that all authority is God given.
I pray daily that my child will have an obedient spirit rather than a rebellious spirit.
Pray for their safety.
The safety of my child is so important to me. I don’t want them to be hurt, or to get seriously ill, or have any other bad thing happen.
But I also trust God loves my child and has their best in mind. I do pray that they will be kept safe but also know that even if something happens, God is still good.
How to Let go of Your Worries and Trust God
You may be thinking that all of this is great in theory. Great verses, great prayers, but how do I actually let go of my worries and trust God? There are a few ways that go along with what I have been writing in this post.
Meditating on Bible verses about worrying about your child is one of the best ways to really hide God’s word in your heart and let go of the worry you feel for your child.
Worrying does not help any situation, and can actually cause health problems. God didn’t design us to worry about our children or about anything else, but to rely on him in everything and to hand over our burdens.
Prayer is the other way that we can let go of our worries about our children and trust in God. Talking to him about what is going on and saying “here is everything I am worried about but I can’t carry it anymore.”
If you have to pray that everyday, then pray it everyday. Lay your worries at the feet of Jesus as often as you need to.
No More Worry
Life is fraught with things that we feel we need to worry about, including our children. Especially our children. But worry does nothing productive and robs the joy we could have raising our children.
There are so many more Bible verses for worrying about your children than the ones listed in this post, but this is a good place to start.
Highlight these verses and mark the pages in your bible, write them on index cards and put them around your house and in your car, meditate on them, hide them in your heart, and do what they say. Give your worries to God, he cares for your far more than your realize.
Our children don’t need us to worry about them, they need us to love God and do what he says. They need us to memorize God’s word and apply it to our lives. They need our prayers, and our joy.
